Archaeological Open Sites

Take part in an archaeological trail as part of Bristol Open Doors and discover three entirely different archaeological venues in Bristol.

  • Begin your travels at Kings Weston Villa. Explore the Roman bath suite, underfloor heating systems and mosaic floors before finding out about who might have lived here.
  • Continue your journey through time into the medieval period, with a guided tour of Bristol Castle Vaults.
  • Finally, don’t forget to stop by the ongoing excavations and pop-up exhibition in St Mary Redcliffe to hear more about what the archaeologists are discovering on site. So far they have discovered medieval and post-medieval buildings, along with evidence of leather working and cloth dyeing. As part on the ongoing excavations within Redcliffe, archaeologists from Oxford and Cotswold Archaeology will be holding a pop-up exhibition within St Mary Redcliffe Church. Running from Friday 14th through to Sunday 16th September, there will be the chance to handle finds and have a go at being an archaeologist yourself. Find out more
