You don’t have to imagine the roar of cannons, the crackle of musketry, the clash of armour, the thunder of horse’s hooves and the beating of drums. Discover the sights, sounds, and smells of seventeenth century Bristol with a re-enactment of the Civil War!

 

Witness the arrest of George Bouchier, churchwarden and wealthy merchant of Bristol who supported the royalist cause during the English Civil War.

 

Determine who were the heroes and villains involved in the foiled plot.

 

Discover the stories of the women who defended the city during the siege and events that took place in the environs of St John’s.

 

In the ancient Crypt, explore medieval architecture and an exhibition of stained glass with presentations and more.
